This is an area around the James River called Nansemond - also the name of the tributary nearby - not too far down the river from Jamestown, the first permanent settlement.
The Nansemond tribe was one of many along the rivers and peninsulas of eastern Va., tribes of the Powhatan Nation. Some others were the Mattaponi, Chickahominy, Rappahannock, Weyanock, Piankatank, and Chesapeake.

I love the video. I was raised right outside of Richmond and have moved all over the world, ironically was stationed back here with my husband on Fort Eustis. 1st thing we did was go to the James,,, I knew I was home then.

The James River also has 1 of the oldest ferry crossings in the United states, The city of Richmond the "Capital of the old south" is further west of the river. This river starts in the Blue Ridge Mountains of VA and ends up in the Chesapeake Bay emptying into the Alantic Ocean. The original 3 ships came up this river, USS Monitor as well.
