A great boat, I'd like to have a go at making this with the kids I teach. I'd really appreciate it if you could forward me any instructions. Thank you. Jen j.randell4@ntlworld.com :-)

Is balsa really that flex-y? I woulda thought you'd have to steam 'em or soak 'em or something. Can you just seal it with some clear poly or something to keep the wood look?

@coyotecrow4
In this project I used 1mm thick 3mm wide balsa planks. Balsa is really flexible in smaller sizes. You may have to steam, soak or even ironing when it comes to bigger sizes.
Clear poly comes as sheets (if I'm not mistaken). You will not be able to stick it without creasing on the boat surface. Liquid will work fine. Try Clear Apoxy Resin.

how did you bend the balsa wood?
neonbluen851 1 year ago
@neonbluen851 The balsa wood I have used is1mm in thickness and 3mm width. This made it easy to bend. There are few ways of bending balsa wood.
1. Soak in the water and iron to make the bend
2. Leave balsa wood in a steamed container for few minutes.
Hope this is useful.
