From the Cafferty File:

When it comes to the real reason for the Iraq war, we've pretty much heard it all: First it was WMD, then it was about the war on terror and removing Saddam Hussein, then it was about spreading democracy. But it was never about the oil.

Now, as Bill Moyers reported on PBS: "...one by one, these concocted rationales went up in smoke, fire and ashes. And now the bottom line turns out to be ... the bottom line. It is about oil."

More than 5 years after the start of the war, the U.S. has lost more than 4,100 troops, tens of thousands more are wounded for life, hundreds of thousands of Iraqis are dead, millions more are displaced, and the U-S taxpayer is stuck with a bill that could top trillions of dollars. And, what about the oil? Well, it hit a new record high today of more than $143 a barrel. Gas prices are up almost 38% from a year ago.

The New York Times reports that the Bush administration played a key role in drawing up no-bid contracts between the Iraqi government and five major Western oil companies to develop some of the largest fields in Iraq. Critics accuse the administration of making sure Western companies get this access in the country that holds the third-largest oil reserves in the world. For example, Russian companies with experience in Iraq were hoping for contracts, but they're still waiting.

The White House denies steering the Iraqis toward any decisions. A State Department official says its advice was "not binding."

Here's my question to you: Do you believe the Iraq war was about oil all along?

  • What? Run out of Indian land to steal, we're into MidEast oil?

It's common human error to ascribe SENSE to ex drunk GWB's alcoholically poisoned brain, prematurely SENILE, he can't even READ a speech!or-tell the difference between 16 SAUDI's 9/11 & Iraq!

So, a Mideast war BLASTS oil prices just as China/India become oil sponges. Cheney's govt contractor cronies rejoice! This is NEWS?

Why look at alternate fuel: wind, solar, water? Just STEAL the oil!

    I've had enough? I'm BUSHED.

  • It was all about oil,and de-stabelizing the Middle East thus making the price sky-rocket so the greedy oil companies could have Carte Blanche to drill anywhere and everywhere.

  • we go in for oil, but the prices only go up. now that sucks.

  • @rhenry501 The Gulf of Tonkin incident and the USS Liberty incident were two different events dude. One was located off the coast of Vietnam and the other was in the Mediterranean Sea. Man, you're a dumbass. Get your facts straight.

  • Hard to think that they thought there was a need to say ` guess what? it was about oil...' REALLY !!! wOW, DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING.. seriously, I live in Australia and when the war started everyone here including comics and tv hosts were commenting on how it was all oil based.. who do the US government think they were fooling? (besides the US public and military, that is..) hey, not paying out on Americans, by the way - you got rid of Bush and pretty obviously could see what an idiot he was...

  • I dunno if it was all about oil, but what I can say is that American now has no moral authority to lecture to any African leader(s) about torture. Then again, America did not torture anyone, they just used "enhanced techniques".

  • Not surprisingly, before the no-bid agreement (a form advantageous to the US) the crats criticized W mercilessly, "Where's the Iraqi oil we're supposed to get?" After the agreement document was presented to Iraq, Schumer went to Baghdad and forbade any oil sale before congress established a carbon footprint for Iraq. The Iraquis threw away the document and sold their oil elsewhere.

Lafferty is a world class truth-manipulator on a mission. He doesn't know what the mission is, but he's on it.

  • everything we've done since WWII has been about oil.

We dropped anthrax on China in 1954

We Had Isrial bomb an American war ship in the gulf on Tonken. (we were going to blame Egypt) so we could wage war and get the oil. A Russian ship save Americans.

We Funded Osama Bin Ladin during the Iran Iraq war. We gave Chemical weapons to Hussen to kill Kurdish children

We killed 8 million people since the end of WWII

Why? Oil. Americans are noble, Our Government is not. It is time we rein them in.

  • You nailed it. I'm a grunt, I have half an ass, no leg, body full of metal and a head full of death because of these bastards. I hope they enjoy the oil, half of it is blood and brains from my buddies the other half is full of dead children, old men, and young men dying because they are fighting hard for thier country. Just like we would if some one would come over to our country. To suck all the fat out of 57% of my fellow country men thats all we seem to offer this world any longer oh & death

  • GW Bush was and an oil man, Cheney worked in oilfield service co, Condi Rice at Chevron. For them 4100 dead is a small price to pay for the oil, how much do the dead soldiers families get? $500,000!! thats just over $2 billion, what the military spends a week in Iraq and what PROFIT exxon made in 3 weeks in 2007.

  • there's innocent blood on bushs' hands.
