Dr. Anita Barry, the director of the Infectious Disease Bureau at the Boston Public Health Commission, gives an update on H1N1 influenza and what the commission is doing to stay prepared. As of 4/27/09 no cases have been reported in Boston. She offer advice on how to stay protected from getting H1N1 influenza, and what to do if you have it.
H1N1 influenza is a respiratory disease of pigs. H1N1 influenza viruses do not normally infect humans, however, human infections with H1N1 influenza do occur. Currently there is an investigation of human H1N1 influenza cases in the United States, Mexico, and several other countries.
