Many of us have been camping, and camping can take on many forms, and have different meanings for different campers.
I have been camping most of my life, first with my Mother in campgrounds (what I call car camping) then with Cubs and Scouts in campgrounds as well. This sort of camping is all about family, friends and some fun activities.
I was extremely fortunate that a friend of the family, who was an avid outdoorsman, invited me on a camping canoe trip. For three days we trekked into the heart of Algonquin Park, with everything we needed packed in our canoe. A few years later I joined the Army Cadets and again participated in wilderness camping. This sort of camping is still about family and friends, but there is a very special feeling you get when you realize that you have become completely self-reliant. Your comfort level, and in some cases your survival, is dependent on your preparation, and skill set.
Minutes after the purchase of my first ATV the thought of wilderness camping was exiting me. Imagine the places I could go and camp with this four wheel drive unstoppable machine. It unfortunately took a few years to get around to planning the first trip, but it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Miles from the nearest road, with everything we needed strapped to the ATV's, we were in fact completely self-reliant, and it was us against the wild.
My friends and fellow ATV Club members have repeated that experience a few times each year, often bringing newcomers to the adventure, and it is always a blast. Enjoy this brief clip of a camp trip and example of some of the exciting terrain that Ontario has to offer.
