Liquid Nitrogen on a Balloon

These videos show some of the interesting properties of Liquid Nitrogen. This one illustrates Charles' Law which says the volume of a gas will decrease when the temperature is decreased. Because it is hard to see this effect when the balloon is put into the Dewar (which is in a few of my other videos), here I pour the liquid nitrogen onto the balloon.

umm...after it has been unfrozen w/ the liquid nitrogen, does the balloon get more fragile? :o...i'd be scared to touch it cuz it might pop and i get liquid nitrogen all over me :D

It is fragile when it is frozen, but after it thaws it returns to normal.

There's not liquid nitrogen inside the balloon [except for negligible amount of gas that liquefies as it is cooled] and there was liquid nitrogen running all over the counter there, so any that might have been in the balloon would not be a concern comparatively.

You wouldn't want to handle the balloon unprotected while it was frozen/shriveled, but after that it is safe.
