MSR coffee filter. This video was filmed inside my kitchen at home. This demonstration simulates how the cook system would work when fired up and in use!. The Trangia alcohol stove burns denatured alcohol, grain/rice alcohol (100 proof only and last resort fuel..lol), or methyl alcohol which all of these are very cheap and nature friendly as it does not contain petro. The Snow Peak cook pots work very well with this stove. It does not take long to boil 16 oz of water. This is a very lightweight setup! When the fuel bottle is full at 16 oz, there is enough fuel for over a week and a half of backbacking!!! I've used this cook system many times while out backbacking and hiking and it works flawlessly! The mesh coffee filter is made by MSR and I picked it up a couple years ago at REI. The filter also works for tea.

  • Where did you get the filter?

  • @mrgoodwrench76 Bought it at REI. I think I paid about $12 for it.

  • LOL!!

  • I tried the coffee filter way but it ran thru too quick never strong enough for my liking now I just use taster choice columbian instant and it's really good . Now I see the light weight titanium pots then you kill it with the heavy stove stand and so much fuel only reason I say that is it defeats the purpose and adds up quick

  • @medicjimr

Thanks for watching! The heavest part to the entire kit is the Trangia alcohol stove ITSELF! You could say the fuel has some weight to it too. The potstand is a very lightweight aluminum and works well with the kit. I added way too much fuel on this video but I mearly wanted folks to see how the system works. If you boil the water and coffee together and then strain all of it thru the coffee fiter, it makes for a strong cup o coffee. I love Nescafe or Starbucks VIA singles too!

  • @CrazyTaileZ Oh Ok just don't think I was knocking your kit just learning together my friend

  • @medicjimr

Never took it that way my friend. In fact, since I have posted this video, I have made some small changes to the kit to reduce the weight like eliminating the filter and coffee all together and just using the Starbucks VIA which tastes incredible or the Nescafe singles. Wrapping foil around the cooking pots and heating your water/food over a campfire is also my style when making a campfire. Often tho, I cannot do this because of early fire restrictions that are put into place.

  • Sir, I noticed some burn sigh on your snow peak 450 cup. The cup is not made from a solid piece of titanium but has double wall with air in between to ensure a better insulation. It is not designed to be put on top of fire and have a very bad heat conducting efficiency.

  • Want I really want is a good cup of coffee. What are your thoughts on the french press style Jet Boil for coffee only?

  • @mrgoodwrench76 you can also just grab the non backpacking version (but identical), Finum Brewing Basket (large) on amazon for 7 bucks. Throw backpacking in front of something and it doubles the cost.

  • Spilling methanol isn't really A-OK. In the lab we go to great lengths to minimize exposure to methanol and its vapors. Look up the msds. I think too many people use it without knowing how bad it is. I was horrified first time I saw it. Also I think your camera has a dead pixel.

  • Good video. You could also boil the grinds in the water then strain into the cup. If you don't want the strainer, just let the the grinds sink by adding a tablespoon of cold water.

  • You need to clean your kitchen LOL

  • This video came up as the recommended next view to my latest - I'm glad it was. You are a bonafide Trangia user - LOL! Nice kit. I like your spork lid handle idea.
