What do the scriptures teach is the seal of the living God. Is it the
seventh day sabbath, or something else entirely?

Is the truth really that hard to see?

  • Hmmmm....I can see why both positions are taken; why you believe the Holy Spirit is the seal of God and why Adventists believe it's the Sabbath... From the outside looking in at first glance as such, I'd be inclined to think you could be right. However, I can't help but wonder if there's more to this topic than meets the eye.

Here's my thought: A seal has three components to it: Title (name), authority and jurisdiction. Are those three components in both the Sabbath and the Holy Spirit? Or 1?

  • @TGQMadamEnchantress

I don't recall reading the biblical components being a title, authority and jurisdiction, but consider the following verses:

Deu 10:14-16 Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens [is] the LORD'S thy God, the earth [also], with all that therein [is]. Only the LORD had a delight in thy fathers to love them, and he chose their seed after them, [even] you above all people, as [it is] this day......

  • Circumcise THEREFORE the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked.

When the Spirit enters you, you receive a circumcision of your heart. This seal of righteousness given to abraham was a shadow of the circumcision of the heart performed by the Spirit of God. If one wishes to declare the sabbath as being the seal because it has title, authority, jurisdiction, we can see the same application in this verse regarding physical circumcision.

In the new testament we read that he....

  • who has not the Spirit is none of his. We must be circumcised by the Spirit and have him live within us.

One important thing to remember is that by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified for by the law is the knowledge of sin. Thus it is not by the law, or through the sabbath, that you receive a seal, this means the sabbath can't be.

  • If you consider who the Holy Spirit is.

    1. He bears the name of God

    2. He is God

    3. of heaven and earth

Rom 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

How do we receive the Spirit, by the hearing of faith or by the works of the law? If its by faith then it is not by works, otherwise faith is no longer faith.

  • oh my apologies I meant spiritual circumcision, not physical circumcision. Also, the latter should be otherwise grace is no longer grace. I'm kinda half asleep atm*lol*

    13. Genesis 1: 31 (God)

    14. Actual study question: "As the second chapter of Genesis continues, is this same emphasis placed on who is the Creator of the heavens and the earth?" Genesis 2: 1-4 I'll let you answer this one personally (or however you please). =)

Continue to be blessed my zealously passionate sister in Christ, and may He and the wisdom of His Spirit guide you always.

  • We are spiritual Israel as you know. Now, from the first book of the Bible (Genesis), to the last book (Revelation), you'll find over and over that God himself, through angels, and through other chosen people, each of them all state the *Lord God* is *the Creator* of *the heavens and the earth* (name, title, jurisdiction).

I took a good share of what I've posted here from a precious Bible study print-out I got last year, something I would like to read and post at some point. ^_^

  • "[...] and they will be a sign between Me and you, that you may know that I am the Lord your God.' " (NKJV)

If we were to question the authority of the president, the governor, or a judge , they would point to their seal and say, "This seal is a *SIGN* of my authority." With this Ezekiel verse, the context of it, the Israelites would be restored from their captivity and restored to the land of their forefathers. But they were to "hallow" His Sabbaths as a condition.

  • This is 900 yrs after the 10 commandments were given: Ezekiel 20: 1, 2, 12, 20 "It came to pass in the seventh year, in the fifth month, on the tenth day of the month, that certain of the elders of Israel came to inquire of the Lord, and sate before me. Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying," [...] "'Moreover I also gave them My Sabbaths, and they will be a sign between them and Me, that they might know that I am the Lord who sanctifies them." [...] "hallow My Sabbaths, ... (continued)

  • Your words are cunning, charming and full of loving passion. ^_^ But the other comparison to the Holy Spirit is God himself:

    (From the NKJV)

    Acts 14: 15 (last part)

"[...] the living God, who made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and all things that are in them."

Exodus 20:11 "For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it."

  • @Myhopeisinhim

I too was sadly half asleep when first posting and I should have said name, title and jurisdiction. XD Sorry about that, wording is everything. ~face-palm~

The interesting thing about the Bible is that you can read it countless times and not have anything stand out to you, then all of a sudden one day, a light bulb flickers on and OH!!!!! How did I not see that before!?! *hehe* The Lord reveals to us what we can handle at the appropriate time. ^_^

    My answer continues...
