In this video I am showing you guys how to use time machine on the Mac OS to its full potential.
With the help of migration assistant you can recover user accounts, applications and settings. However you can't recover specific files or applications.
With a little work around you can still recover those individual files and applications which is very helpful if you just want to install your most used files after an OS upgrade.
This also works with different OS versions as you see in the video.

I have maxed out the memory on my MacBook and want to use Time Machine to store. I have a 2-terabyte external hard drive, which is far more than I should need. How can I free up memory on my computer and utilize Time Machine and the external drive?

I would personally select items you don't need on a daily basis like movies, maybe old photos or music and transfer them regularly to the external hard drive.

you said you had trouble with photo shop? I just bought the new macpro and will be attempting a migration when it arrives next week. what were the troubles? Also, when you transfer an application such as photo shop do you need to re-input the product key?

Does this also work for 10.8.3? My system's been pretty clogged up lately so I want to do a complete reinstall of the OS and my major applications and data, then figure out which programs are slowing me down by selectively restoring them. It's been upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion so I'm sure there's a ton of useless stuff out there.
