My dad got eastbound manifest #486 with Iowa, Chicago and Eastern 6443 leading two Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern units in two different patched CP paint schemes. 6443 has a K3L horn, unusual for an IC&E locomotive. The vast majority have P3s or Prime PM920s (Leslie S-3LR soundalikes). Location is the County Highway N crossing east of Mauston.
Shortly after Justin and I got the Empire Builder near Watertown, I heard over the scanner that this train was in Rio. We set up and waited around for over half an hour (at track speed, it's not half an hour by rail from Rio to Watertown), then gave up and went into the trackside McDonald's to order lunch. About 10 minutes later, we noticed the freight cars rumbling by. We didn't see the power, but figured it must be 486 due to the distinctive consist of freight cars (primarily the large number of DM&E covered hoppers).
Yes, it is a SD40-3!! I thought it was a SD40.
