  • I am just curious.. What are you doing to put weight on her? I need to put weight on mine.. He is on daily de-wormer to get rid of his worms. Because apparently they have worms when they come off the track.

  • She is only getting dewormed like a regular horse would. But, she is on multiple different things to get wait on.

    1. Seminole Plantation ten ( oats )

    2. Beat pulp ( it has fiber in it and helps put wait on and keep it on. It is also easy to digest since it is shredded)

    3. Triple Crown Senior ( but we just ran out of that and won't be getting it anymore unless she starts to loose weight )

    4. Triple Crown 30 % ( supplements to keep her healthy )

  • 5. Ultimate Finish by Buckeye ( it is high in fat, and you don't have to use ver much at all. She gets half a cup at each feeding. It tastes great, the horses love it, and it keeps the weight on awesome. I highly reccomend getting it )

    She is also getting:

    2-3 tbs of flax seed

    tbs of table salt

    garlic powder

    and sometimes brewers yeast

Also, she had ulcers when she came off the track, same with a lot of horses. I would get your horse some antacid pills from walmart of publix.

  • And, keep your horse on the antacid pills for about a month. We gave her about ten pills twice a day because she wasn't eating her food because her stomach was hurting. Now, she won't stop eating, lol. I hope this all helps!!

  • omg. shes gorgeous and looks amazing!

  • Thanks!!

  • Yeah mine is on the same de-wormer and I am going to start adding corn oil to his grain. And keep him in a stall at night with hay. We have a old ancient TWH that needs to be on all this crap (including corn oil) to keep his weight up. He is a really hard keeper.

    Thanks soo much guys!

My horse is on daily dewormer Strongid C2X too, it's great stuff. The best thing, though, is just to provide as much roughage/hay as you possibly can, free choice is best. Good luck!!!

I have a teenage OTTB who is an uber hard keeper, and I recommend small doses of a feed called Athlete (I'm not sure what company it's made by, but it should be pretty easy to find). Just half a pound twice a day makes a huge difference. Another miracle substance is just plain old corn oil from a grocery store! It is just fats and lipids, so it puts weight on and makes his coat glossy without making him hot with a lot of calories from grain.
