I agree with the butter! It does make this a full on winter filler with some seeded bread.
For lighter dhaal I begin with some hot oil and chuck in all the spices, using whole ones if poss, like coriander seed. Let them explode for less than a minute then pour the oil through a sieve over pre-cooked plain red lentils and stir in. Not as hearty so good as an accompaniment.

your as beautiful as always... but i cringe when you use the knife to evacuate items from the board. i know using a pastry knife is one more thing to wash, but i get tired of dicing my ill-placed fingers.

awesome, me n my family love dhal! ussually we eat with roti canai or thosai, n 2 small plates of dhal was nvr enuf for each of us XD
