Ice floats in water because when water is frozen, it expands and gets less dense. Anything that is less dense will float on a more dense material, such as water. Learn how Archimede's Principle explains the rules of density with information from a math and science teacher in this free video science lesson.

  • ice floats cos it's ice, noob.

  • It makes sense b/c convection, specifically condensation, energy from the environment is absorbed into the ice, causing it to melt because Heat travels to perimeters of less heat than that of its own. Heat travels to areas of less heat aka energy travels to areas of less energy. Example If you boil water for long enough, it will completely (and exponentially)evaporate and none will be left, if you continually freeze water it will overflow its container or break it, explaining the added pressure

  • Basically Ice expands when it freezes, particles collide MORE, and expansive pressure increases more frequently. (Because All chapters in States of Matter explain in detail that solid liquid gas respsectively the particles become further apart and collide less per set interval of measureable time.) SO.. expansive pressure increases and collection of mass "tries" to keep equillibrium, thrusting away from gravitational pull, in an attempt to stabilize with the mass slowly decreasing kenetic energy

  • the principle that most effluently explains this, is D = M/V Density equals mass divided by volume. Because we know less dense collections of mass will bouyantly ascend to the static-opposite-center of where gravity pulls, by that logic we KNOW that Ice is less dense than water, and contains more volume. Its an opposite by multiplicative reciprocity, or in mathmatic terms, its Productive Inverse.

  • @dominic09131996 how is it gay?

  • @lancelotray duhhhhh gets bigger

  • what do you mean by expands?

  • If we can't talk about God, you all can't talk about science. Free speech, we will get louder and louder and louder.

  • yeah thats a big part of it, I'm surprised he didn't go into it. The partial charges at the ends of the H2O molecule causes attraction and repulsion at the same time. When it is at a lower energy state it crystalizes.

  • no dip now tell me why water is most dense as a liquid
