Did the deep fryer for about 10 years, but I was spending more on the oil than I was on the turkey. Then there was the 'disposal' issue as far as the used oil was concerned. I decided it just wasn't worth the hassle. A friend clued me into the oil free cooker last year and the bird was delicious. Honestly, not a whole lot of difference between this and the oil fried bird and the clean up is MUCH EASIER. Less danger, less oil and you can thow in a few chips of apple wood in the smoker. Nice

Just got mine, going to try a whole chicken as practice before the Christmas Eve turkey.

Did I miss you saying to preheat the unit? This can take up to 1 hour if it's cold or windy...

@Old4u2nv +Pre heating the oil free unit is up to you, you do not have to. If you do pre heat remove the basket and have the turkey loaded and ready to go in. Cook the turkey 10 to 11 Mins per pound and check the breast temp to make sure it at 165 degrees. Happy Thanksgiving.
