What type of file is it?
Try putting it in a zip file. VBA and other USB loading wii software uses Zip files

If you google "Wii USB Device Compatibility List" you'll find a page that has all known HDD's that work on the Wii. If your HDD is not on the list that doesn't mean it won't work. Best thing to do is just try it.

nice. but when i download the iso of the game i "have", do i need anything special like daemon tools or something? no img burner? nothing like that?

No you don't need to do anything to the iso at all. Just use WBFS Manager to put the iso on your external USB drive. Thats it.
