I lived in Hawaii until I was 9 (I'm haole) and when we left I remember my parents listening to this song over and over and crying. I came back to Hawaii for the first time since then, 25 years later, and it's a really strong memory. I have the original record (and yeah, it's a vinyl record) -- my mom, who passed away a few years ago, had kept it all these years. Thank you Keola and Kapono for a wonderful song -- it really represents the beauty of Hawaii.

I grew up in Hawaii. Most of my family are on leeward side of Oahu, my parents met & got married in Hawaii moving to the mainland then back to Hawaii and then back to the mainland. I left for the mainland over 20 years ago. I just came back this Christmas visiting family- the first time in 15 years. The traffic, hustle & bustle of Oahu aside, no matter where I've been or how long I've been away it'll always be home. This song touches my soul and every fiber of my being every time I hear it.

Nearly thirty years ago, it's about 10pm, my sea-bag and orders in hand, my girl-friend sitting beside me, mom & dad driving me to the airport on my way to my first overseas tour while in the Marine Corps; when this song came on the radio...As if they were playing it just for me...youthful memories so thick ya gotta cut-it with a butter knife...This wonderful tune takes me back every time.
