This video is the memorial service that was held on the 25th Jan 2008 at Burleigh Point to commemorate the life of Denis Callinan, a prominent and exceptional Gold Coaster. He was the president of a charity called SAND, Surfer's Against Nature's Destruction, which supported most major Australian charities and Environment groups. Here we see tributes from top name surfers, such as Wayne "Rabbit" Bartholomew, Dave Rastovich, Joel Parkinson and Mark Callinan, Denis's brother. After the service, Denis's ashes were scattered out to sea in a traditional surfer's farewell. For tributes and messages to Denis there has been a website set up, www.deniscallinan.com

Stumbled across this video after looking for stuff about Rabbit and imediately recognised the name from Rabbit's book. From the way everyone talks about him (not just the pros, D.C. sounds like a top bloke and the vid was quite moving. Wish we had a tradition like that here in Wales.
