Real pictures of Napoleon's soldiers from the First French Empire. Photos were taken during the Second French Empire (1852-1870) so the soldiers were about 70/80 years old.

Napoleon III decided to reward the soldiers of the First Empire and offered to them the medal of Saint-Helena.

  • sure take pictures of some of his soldiers.... BUT NOT ANY OF NAPOLEON/JOSEPHINE, OR ANY OF HORATIO NELSON OR WELLINGTON!

  • @lgarza1594 Actually there is a picture of Wellington :) Check his profile on Wikipedia (english version) there is a daguerreotype

  • The men maybe veterans but the uniforms they wear are on the whole reproductions made for the photographs, which were taken in 1858 with the inaugoration of the Medaille de Saint Helene

  • @DiegoLiger Are you sure their uniforms are reproductions ? A veteran could keep his clothes in a cupboard

  • Does anyone know any book or site where you can read stories from veterans of this era?

    regards

  • @janeknr2 personally i rode "La vie militaire sous le Premier Empire" (military life during the first french empire) by Elzear Blaze, a former french officer during napoleonic wars. I don't know if it's translated in english but it was a great book.

  • ARE YOU GUYS RETARDED? READ THE DECRIPTIONS. THEY'RE VETERANS

  • @KKKSuperFan No but they invaded all of Europe and it took 7 coalitions (including Britain) to defeat them...

  • @VRIESSS I am currently going through the photographs image by image to ascertain what might be first empire and what is second empire and what is dubious reconstruction, such as the habit worn by the dragoon. Unitl recently a lot what was on display in the Musee de l'Armee was fakery: of the manaquin of the officer of Young Guard only the waist belt was genuine and only the Helmet and Habit for the Engineer of the Guard!

  • @VRIESSS Oh yes. The Uniform worn by the Engineer soldier is Second Empire; the cut of the lapels, the epaulettes, the sword and sword belt; dtto the "Red" Lancer. The two Grenadiers a Pied wear Second Empire bearskins. If you look at the shape of some of the Hussar colpacks they are also Second Empire from their shape.

  • @SlingBlade79 It all depends on how our environment mixes with our internal body chemistry. There is a tipping point where size no longer benefits a creature. Its funny that the "Napoleon Complex" is used with such regularity when at the time a man his size (approx 5'5") would be no more than an inch short of average, if that. I am 6'1" in a country where the average male height is 5'8 1/2". It has more to do with the climate then we think, I believe.

  • @menacinghat bored? I left that comment 5 months ago. and yes it is a proven fact that Victorians where shorter people then us. and yes 100 years from now I will be considered short. :-)
