  • Does elderberry jelly taste anything like concord grape jelly?

  • @kevseb66

LOL! You need a new keyboard it looks like :) No .. they don't taste like Grape Jam :

  • i have seen some plants that look like that down byt he river here,

are there any similar plants that are poisonus? i dont want to make a pot of poison jelly by mistkae, hahaha

  • @spr00sem00se

You do want to positively ID what you pick and use. One of the most poisonous plants in the US (Poison Hemlock - will kill you in hours) looks similar to the untrained eye. So do get out your field guide.. or ask a plant expert in your area what you have there

  • @BushcraftOnFire I didn't know Poison Hemlock had berries. I could understand if you were using the flowers but what do the Hemlock berries look like?

  • @mkcloe1

Poison Hemlock doesn't have berries that I know of.. but before the berries come on it's possible to confuse the two. The point was.. make sure you positively ID what you use.

  • great video Tam! My grandmother used to make elderberry jelly and pies every year, something I always looked forward to. Thanks for reminding me how much I miss them...and her :-)

  • @wansbek1968 You can sun dry them, use a dehydrator or a slow oven overnight.

  • I was wondering, how do you dry the elderberries for the tincture?

  • My Grandfather showed me a great way to remove the elderberries from the "droops". Place them in a 5 gallon bucket and with a clean stick, just stir. You end up with just the twigs up high and the berries in the bucket. Very few are burst, but you do have to fish out the green ones.

  • @BushcraftOnFire Yep what he said :)

  • @DanceSexy101 Hi there, check around 5:50 you'll see how we obtained the juices, then at 7:25 you'll see how to can them, they are not processed in a water bath as with only two jars they go right into the fridge :) If you want to can them, simply place hot jars into boiling water, covered for about 10 min, then remove and cool and put in your cupboard.
