In 2006, Tim Leaton's one-minute film, "Orphans in Africa," won the nation-wide "Film Your Issue" competition, an unprecedented competition for 30-to-60 second "issue films" open to all 18 to 26 year old U.S. residents. The winners were determined by a 50-50 public-jury vote. The public cast their votes online at MSNBC.COM, which drew a record breaking 88,638 responses, leaping past the 61,598 votes for the MSNBC.COM poll for best Super Bowl ad. The illustrious VIP jury included George Clooney, Walter Cronkite, the Dali Lama, and Brian Williams, just to name a few. Leaton presented his film at the awards ceremony at the United Nations in June of '06; in addition, the film will be shown during next year's Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. From the five winners, Leaton was also selected to receive the grand prize of an eight week paid internship at Disney's movie studios in Los Angeles. Also, Tim will be returning to "Film Your Issue" as a member of the jury next year.

That was absolutely heart warming. How kids can go through traumatic experiences throughout poverty or parent loss, and come out with such hope and determination. I have never been so inspired in my life. God bless these courages souls. -3
