@don1carter - Yes, it is my understanding that Paul Aurandt is the son of the late commentator, Paul Harvey, of ABC News.
-
@cyndimp Gotta ask. Is he the son of the late commentator?
-
Elmer, you may know the composer better by his stage name, Paul Harvey, Jr.

Charles is a badass!

Charles - I am eager to hear your interpretation and look forward to your post. It's hard to believe that Aurandt's moving sonata is not better known. Your reading will perhaps remedy its lack of attention. -- In your headnote can you describe a little of the composer's life?

I eagerly await your posts of the 2d and 3d movements of this sonata. The 2d is a little thin (often the case with the contrasting movement), but no doubt your reading will enhance it. The 3d is even better than the 1st; one passage (7:00-8:00 in Hamilton) unfolds astonishingly well. Yet I could discover little about the composer. What do you know? - Thanks.

Elmer - I have a new performance of the entire sonata... just need to get the audio finished and synced with the video before I can post it. Its by no means a flawless performance... but I feel I convey my ideas pretty well. I'll try to have it up in a few weeks.

An extraordinary performance of a superbly difficult piece. The strength of the interpretation, the brilliance of the execution, and the professionalism of the performer - all command great admiration. I hope that Charles Szczepanek will issue a CD soon. I have just ordered the only CD I could find of Paul Aurandt Jr.'s sonata, which is wonderfully influenced by Rachmaninoff's harmonies and dissonance.

Thank you very much for your thoughts! I'm glad you enjoyed the piece and the performance! I have had the immense pleasure of working with the composer on this piece, and hope to post the entire sonata within a few months. A cd may be in the works for the summer ;-)
