Guy Maestri's painting of a blind indigenous singer was chosen from more than 700 entries as the winner of the Archibald Prize. Maestri was inspired to paint Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu, after seeing the indigenous singer perform in 2007. Maestri arranged to meet the singer for just 40 minutes at Sydney Airport, where he sketched the initial studies for the portrait.
