I agree the voice is amazing, however, the "umph" and "contrast" in the chorus that you mention, is really very subjective. I love the mellowness, and prefer singers like James Morrison, India Arie, Corrine Bailey Rae, Marvin Gaye, James Blunt, whose voices can carry a song without all the instrumentation, example ; Christina Aguilera has an amazing voice that is often over shadowed by over production. I want to listen to a voice I might be lucky enough to hear in the shower, or bed. . .
