A solo skier on Mt Ellis triggered a large avalanche. He hit a tree and broke his femur. Another skier in the vicinity heard his yells and initiated a rescue. Mt Ellis is located south of Bozeman MT in the northern Gallatin Range. It's a popular destination for backcountry skiers.
He's lucky someone else was out there on a week day. Mt. Ellis doesn't get a lot of traffic.

My friend is the extremely foolish individual involved in this event. He had surgery today and will be okay... but he was VERY VERY LUCKY THERE WAS ANOTHER SKIIER UP ON ELLIS ON A MONDAY AFTERNOON!
It's been said before and bears repeating, DO NOT GO INTO THE BACKCOUNTRY ALONE!
Thank you guys, for the quick coverage of this event!
