In this video I have recorded it twice and stuck reasonably closely to my written arrangement. The right hand close-up is intended to show which fingers I use to fingerpick the strings.

Some of my other TABs are not too hard to play, but this one is quite tricky as there a lot of slides in it. Also, much of it uses a bluegrass technique called cross-picking, where the melody is played over several strings which are allowed to ring on.

If you enjoy using my arrangements, let me know. Feedback is encouraging.

Thanks

KEN

  • What a fresh intepretation of this old chestnut! Truly enjoyed it Ken.

  • I'd forgotten I'd done this one. Thanks.

  • Mr M. I Love it.

Turkey in the Straw has become a bit of a cliché bluegrass tune but your arrangement plus the subtle uke tones have given it a whole different dimension.

Do you ever do any Irish folk music? It would be interesting to hear a jig or reel on the uke or maybe another cliché like The Irish Washerwoman.

Congratulations again on a fantastic arrangement and video performance.

  • Thanks Tony, it is great to have such encouraging comments.

So far I've tried to pick the bluegrass "favorites" to arrange. I had been thinking of doing more Irish or Scotish tunes. I may try a reel or a hornpipe soon.

    Thanks again

  • Ken - really enjoyed the song. Growing up in Virginia and living some time in Kentucky, I have to admit I like that kind of music! I remember (barely) playing it on the piano as aa kid, taking piano lessons. Thanks for the memories!
