In open E: EBEG#BE......A lot of people are saying this is in open E rather than standard tuning, but nobody ever seems to post an open E version. So I went ahead and recorded one.

You can decide for yourself which tuning you prefer!

  • Great thanks for posting another interesting video. I'm trying to find a good one in open G as well. Personally I prefer the sound of open E as I find it darker and more bluesy than open G. I've noticed that Keef likes to move from major to minor notes and chords. Here he moves from C# major to C# minor in the intro and verse (eg from C# to B and A. F# is in both major and minor scales). He does this alot in songs, during verses or choruses. Key to the stones sound I reckon. Best wishes.

  • @leapsplashafrog You can check out live versions, which I'm pretty sure Keith did in open G. Personally, I hate the live versions of this song. But that's just me.

  • hey what amp do you have?

  • @TheFinnosaurus That's a Marshall AVT 50H half-stack.

  • privett, 1st thanks for your lessons. I learned CSN (3 songs) in open E--

EEEEBE and sounds great. So ,my question is are there diff variations on the

    open E tunings? Thanks

  • @wishiwasdiggin Well, EEEEBE isn't open E. It's technically an altered tuning. Open E is EBEG#BE (same intervals as open D, except everything's tuned up). So yes, you can do a whole slew of tunings in the key of E, but they're not necessarily open E. Does that make sense?

  • Great job. It is in "E " and that comes from the man himself. Keiths song all the way! I even have a version of him on the vocal and it is amazing. I say play it the waty is was recorded. Buy a guitar for specific tunings. I have 6 and they are all in different tunigs. My guitars aren't as nice as yours! Hope you have insurance on those beauties! How about "Kind hearted woman" By George Thoroughgood? He does the best version of that song I have ever heard. I play it in open "G" Think I a wrong?

  • New guitar in the collection priv?

  • For what its worth Rolling Stones Fake Book indicates standard tuning.

I love the Open E version but it necessitates a few guitars on stage thats for sure!

  • Great shirt!

  • Privettricker it's awesome to see you're big enough of a Stones fan to post two covers of this.

Not sure if that's a new guitar or not but either way it's got sex appeal dude!!

  • what's the guitar? les paul?

  • @privettricker Cheer's man!
