Petsmart does once in a while get a defect in it's animals. Once at mine, half the goldfish that were delivered had some worm disease. but petsmart immediately fixed the problem. I think they saved the diseased fish too

just because they buy from a place that does horrible things to poor little creatures which i am against it doesn't mean that the people who work at petsmart agree with it or encourage it at all. i do agree that it is terrible what they do to those creatures.

Shelters do deal with rodents dumbass. There are many, many places fostering and trying to adopt out rats, guinea pigs, rabbits etc. BIg chain stores do not sell healthy animals. That doesn't mean you can't get a healthy pet from a pet store, but it is like winning the lottery in a lot of ways.

Fucking open your eyes people.

To have the animals available to you, the buyer at the cheap price that these animals are, these so called 'breeders' have to breed hundreds of animals to meet demand whilst spending as little as possible on food and probably no money on vet care. Why? because vets are expensive and it cuts into profits. So before you yell from the rooftops how all petsmarts aren't like that, get real and remember this is a business. They wouldnt do it if it wasnt profitable and it is only profitable for mills.

You guys are really dim witted if you don't understand how business works. You really think each individual pet smart store differs in who they obtain their animals from, they do not. Whilst some staff may have more knowledge, there are some things you need to understand. These 'breeders' have to meet the high demand for animals in these stores, breeding cheaply. If you speak to a real breeder of rats/hamsters/whatever they will tell you how costly breeding healthy animals is.

@AngryHippy108 (Second post, ran out of room.) Also, have you ever known a Petsmart(or any other big name pet store) to do background checks on the people they are selling their animals to? 'Cause I sure haven't, and due to this ANYONE can go out and buy a pet. No matter their intention or past history with animals. Now I'm not saying this is true for every big name pet store, but the one's around here sure don't have a good reputation.
you commenters aren't very smart. I'm sorry, but every animal i've seen or bought from petsmart is a sickly one.I'm not saying every petsmart is like that but I've been to quite a few. Petsmart DOES buy from mills in litter lots. I get all my pets from breeders or shelters.

Individual stores may vary. My local Petsmart has very knowledgable staff that care well for their animals and only deal with breeders that meet certain standards. Other locations I've been to have'nt always been as good.
