At HP's Enterprise Printing and Imaging conference held Tue, October 3rd at the St Regis in San Francisco, Rob and I also discussed the Sony batteries recall situation and how the Japanese company has "pissed" the PC OEM manufacturers by not simply recall all the contaminated batteries. Sony has indeed mismanaged the situation and should have recalled all the batteries and not let the PC OEMs check, one after the other, if this could be a hazardous situation for the user. Especially as Rob mentioned, the fire explosion does not appear immediately but after the batteries have "aged" a bit. After the conversation, Rob also mentioned that Sony has refused to immediately upgrade its manufacturing facilities, unlike its competitors, when it knew of the possible contamination risks as it requested important investments. I guess it's "pay back time" now.
