Some of that hate also comes from straight acting guys that are Bi or Gay. Seems like the more closeted someone is, the more they hate on the flamboyant gays.

Of course your roommate is straight, he just has dodgy taste in music, posters though? Good serious topic, IMO it is those thoughts about "the flamers" that lead to the poor attitudes for the Trans community. Violence & homicide statistics show a trend upwards, and the largest number of the homicides are among the Transgendered population. Better to be you indeed, being yourself is so much easier and then people who like you get the real deal which is good for everyone.
