i was in the Westgate mall in SJ. It's so hard to describe what it was like trying walk(forget about running) out of the mall. Every step was like the floor was being pulled out from under you.

I live in Sunnyvale, and i hear from the Sunnyvale Public Safety guys that there were just about no reports of damage

When the earthquake hit, we were in our office in Wolfe Rd., Sunnyvale. Office furniture was thrown all over the place, but the building remained intact. I think Sunnyvale must have escaped most of the major damage, but where we lived in Santa Cruz County, there were plenty of homes and buildings completely demolished. Hwy 17 was closed for a few days too, due to slides that buried the road on both sides of the hill.

wow you guys' came out pretty good actually, i have relatives that live near aptos village that had their entire house trashed. the house survived minus the brick chimney. i was about 8years old and in the basketball park at live oak elementary school when it happened. the dust and seeing the tree's and power poles whipping back and fourth where insane. i dont remember feeling anything let alone hearing any sound, just what i saw. it was a trip

Yes, we were very lucky that day! Our house was built with newer earthquake resistant standards. Most houses on our street lost the chimney, some even crashed through the roof when they collapsed.
