Norfolk Southern H07- Detour on NYS&W: September 4, 2011

This is yet another extremely rare occurrence on the Susquehanna. With the Main Line out of service up to Hudson Junction, blocking access for Norfolk Southern freight, NS decided to reroute its road train H07 onto the NYS&W to get to Campbell Hall. An NYS&W crew took the train west as WSX.

The chase began in Oakland, NJ and ended at the Campbell Hall station. There we saw two East Penn Railways locomotives on duty for work on the Middletown & New Jersey. Also note in the last shot, the slack letting in and out as the train stops with only locomotive brakes. This chase was my longest to date. While traveling with others who were taking photos, I was only able to video the beginning of the train at most of my 14 stops.

I wish. The line from "Y" in Cassville, NY to Richfield Springs, NY was taken out years ago, one from "Y" to Waterville, NY still operates. There is a YT video on C-430 3000 Alco NYS&W laying on its side. I was there that day to take photos.

@Senegal01 Thanks! I would assume that is the Utica branch. I know the county up there got about $700,000 to rehab the line up there to bring back some business. So it may be going by you again soon.
