Enough For Now
Artist: The Fray
Album: The Fray (2009)

Lyrics
The daughter's father watches, quietly we assume
He's not longer with us but he left this dusty room
In your name and its an honor, its a shame but its your honor
Take it on your shoulder til you can find another

That's enough for now, he should've never left you broken
He should've held you, things your father never could do
That's enough for now, he would've never left you broken
He would've held you, things your father never told you

The century before you never could turn 21
Years and years he waited just watching for a son
For someone to go ahead, take the name he said
Years and years he waited and a daughter came instead

But that's enough for now, he should've never left you broken
He should've held you, things your father never could do
That's enough for now, he would've never left you broken
He would've held you, things your father never told you

Breathing comes in pairs
Except for twice
One begins and one's goodbye

Sixty years of sorrow he got 5 or 6 of bliss
Left my mothers mother without so much as a kiss

But that's enough for now, he never wanted to leave you broken
He would've held you, things your father never told you
That's enough for now, I would've never left you broken
I would've held you, things your father never could do
Words your father never told you

Sixty years of sorrow, he got 5 or 6 of bliss
Left my mother's mother without so much as a kiss

  • My goodness people!!

It's a son telling his mother's story. How his grandfather wanted a son, but got a daughter instead. And he ended up walking out on his wife and daughter. That's why it says "left my mother's mother..."

  • I love The Fray <3

  • I can relate to this song, my grandfather left my grandmother because in the 3 years they tried having a baby she couldn't have gotten a baby when she did it was my mom, she died in that hospital the sad part about it my grandfather walked out between the pregnancy, so my mom grew up with her aunts. She's dead now...

  • i dont even lissen to the lyrics haha i just love this song

  • 60 years of sorrow, he got 5 or 6 of bliss. left my mother's mother without so much as a kiss.

    powerful words. remember them.

    that is all.

  • My dad only wanted boys and i already have an older brother. before i was born he prayed and prayed i was a boy...... and i was. :D. some stories dont have to be heartbreakers. btw love this album

  • Dear Daddy,

I know I wasn't the one you wanted, but sometimes I still wish that you didn't hurt me like this. Sometimes I pretend that you didn't mean to break me the way you did. You made me grow up fast, because I had to take care of mom when you decided to leave us. Maybe you just forgot to say you love us and you do care, but how am I supposed to know?

    Your daughter

  • I have 2 big sisters. So, my dad and his dad wanted a son, one more male in family, to carry on our name. Instead, he got me.

  • Ok guys...like the title says I think thats enough sad stories for now.........*sniff*sniff
