Collier Swecker video blogs about how Birmingham AL owners need to be real careful and not fall prey to scams that convince you that your roof has hail / storm damage and that you need a new roof as a result. These scammers tell homeowners that their home insurance will cover the cost of the new roof. These scammers mention that they need to inspect the roof for the damage. One sign that a company may be a scam is that the roofing company is based out of state and is new to the Birmingham area after a recent storm. It is shocking that almost every time these companies seem to find storm / hail damage (that is why you see yard signs from the roofing companies in every yard in same neighborhoods all over Birmingham). Homeowners here in Birmingham have got to remember that unless they have real damage that was caused by a storm, they are a party to insurance fraud in the State of Alabama, which is a Felony. Even if you believe that the insurance companies and authorities would never know that the damage never occurred, you and all other homeowners will pay the cost of your repairs over many years due to increased premiums. What baffles me the most is the fact that the majority of homeowners that are taking advantage of this scam, appear to be in middle class and well educated neighborhoods. These scammers damage the reputation of honest roofing companies which do an awesome job of servicing homeowners here in Birmingham. I will be more than happy to recommend some great local companies that do a fabulous job roofing homes all over the Birmingham area. If you have any comments or questions about these roofing scams, email me at Collier@MegaAgentRealEstate.com or visit my website at www.MegaAgentRealEstate.com.
This guy must work for the insurance company and doesn't want the home owner filing a claim. it is very simple you either have hail damage or not. If an adjuster from the insurance co.comes to your home and finds damage how can that be fraud!!!!!

How is it a Scam???? If the roofer does the inspection & doesn't find hail damage; they most of the time wont waste their time trying to get a homeowner to file a claim. Most homeowners are not aware that they have hail damage without an inspection; plus they dont realize how threatnig hail damage is to the roof until it's to late to file a claim, Besides the adjuster makes the decision, not the contractor. This guy has no idea what he is talking about.

Stick with your job as a real estate agent, cause you have no clue about the insurance or roofing industry. And I love the fact when you mention a roofing company knocking on a door and telling a home owner they probably have hail damage. And you say how would they know? Well if you knew more about the industry you would know there are tools (hailwatch) out there to track hail.. Should we start ripping on your industry as a crocked real estate agent?

I have no problem with legitimate claims ...But you roofers , adjusters ,homeowners know it's a bonanza out there .. Homeowners find someone that'll give them a kickback..roofers get a well paid roof . and the adjusters .. I am not sure about

Dont be such an idiot, these companies cant make the insurance companies pay. If there is no damage the adjuster wont approve the claim. Sometimes, the adjsuter wont approve the claim if there is damage!

I believe you do have serious concerns, you may not know quite how to convey them as you are a real estate professional and not either a contractor or claims consultant. I have spent over 7 years between a car dealership and a local roofing company interfacing with insurance professionals in reguards to claims and while i cant speak for how shiftless operators run THEIR businesses...I know mine, and am at a lost in deducing where you draw some of your conclusions sir. Thank you.

I am a roofer. we had a big hail storm come through our area and a lot of houses had damage. And Yes a LOT of out of state and area companies came in and took a lot of work away from us. We Never go door to door, they did and we only repair or replace roofs that had damage. But some insurance companies had the whole roof replaced when it only need the ridges replaced. Go figure. We even replace roof's that we had just done .
