I need to work out this camera a little more, get used to it, work out the best way to hold it steadier. And, wait until the time is right to get some good shots in good enough light. Any questions ask below. I used the built in microphone, 18-55mm kit lens and no tripod was used. It was recorded to a 4GB SanDisk Ultra II Memory Stick Pro Duo (The memory stick can have an impact on the quality).

So I made this really short test video. It was getting dark so it looks rather grainy. I might do a review if enough people ask me.

Oh and please watch this video of my friends speech. It's very good and he won an award for it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9uZ2bV0Wz0

  • It's not 1080i, the internet NEVER uses interlaced footage. It is 1080p

  • @Post12Production1 You're right. I forgot about it being deinterlaced.

But the camera does shoot at 1080i.

    Thanks for the correction!

  • Quick question: what settings are you using on the nex to achieve the blurred backgrounds etc when shooting video? I can only seem to video with the whole image in focus... Thanks

  • @m4cot82 Simply go on the iA mode (Intelligent Auto) and make sure the background defocus control is all the way at the bottom. This should make it blurred as long as you're at the right angle and focal.

  • @Genixel ah okay- will do

    thanks for the info!

  • @hairybearz Actually this is just my new channel, where most my content will be posted.

Would be cool if you could take a look :) All my videos are done with this camera so you could check out some more examples.

  • @Genixel thanks very much even though this wasnt your video!

    cheers

  • @hairybearz You twist the lens to zoom in and out. You can zoom as fast as your hand can go.

To focus, you can either select auto focus, which will do it for you, or you can select manual focus, where you need to twist the ring next to the zoom ring to focus.

  • if you zoom with the 18-55mm lens do you twist the lens body or do you push a button on the camera body and it does it electrically? and is manual focus the same?

    thanks very much!

  • @IzReticuli It depends on the size of the memory that stick you use.

I think it's limited so you can only record continuously for 30 minutes. I have an 8GB memory stick which can hold about an hour of video, so I can record for 30 minutes, then it will stop, then record for another 30 minutes.

I'd suggest an 8GB or more memory stick.

  • how much video can i film in HD?

  • Just found the best smallest strongest case for my NEX camera. Aluminum frame inside! check it out: (copy link to address bar): NEXbag.bymac.org
