A request from a viewer from China. Part 1 (of 4)of Fritz Kreisler playing Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto with Leo Blech conducting the Berlin State Opera Orch., recorded in 1926. Unfortunately, HMV (Victor) wanted Kreisler to record the Beethoven, Brahms and Mendelssohn Concertos immediately after the introduction of electrical recording. If they had waited 3 or 4 years, the sound would have been much better. Kreisler did them again in 1936 in great sound but by then he was past his prime.

  • It's a little sharp. Is the record player calibrated?

  • You sharp eared listeners. :-) Yes, a while back I cleaned and lubricated the motor which caused the speed to increase from 78.26 to almost 80 rpm. Since corrected.

  • THIS VICTROLA IS ELECTRIC?

  • Only the turntable motor is electric. The reproduction is acoustic through a large horn.

  • The other reproducer is from an HMV machine but the American version sounds better.

  • *A sound of a violin becomes a jewel only when it passes through similar packed materia

    in a properly aged deck.*

  • Can a violin produce a sound like that? What a tone, what a tone! It is liquid gold, full of warmth....and those starting notes....they sound so beautiful without any vibrato.

  • Brings back wonderful memories. I listened to this album often when I was young. Beautiful!

  • national treasure !

  • ¤I`ts more like the tradition out of Paganini and Wieniawski to tune up in order to

have them cach up pretty well.¤

  • Bravo! What a great idea to put on a recording like that. Just by looking at the phonograph whilst listening makes it feel different. Kreisler's playing is divine.

The brightness in tone His Stradivarius

reflects is like scattering packed light in sound wawes. All instruments get clearer in time when the material crystalizes and hardens between the woodrings.

  • 2) You're totally correct, 1) I hope you're wrong about it never returning

  • Beautiful sound......I can only say that. Thank you!
