The worst mistake Pat Buchanan made was to run as a Reform Party candidate. Instead, he should have run as the Constitution Party nominee and thus had a united conservative movement behind him. Of course hindsight is 20/20...

Pat Buchanan made a bad move by going back to the Republican Party. He should have either stayed in the Reform Party or gone to another third party.

1996 was Pat Buhcanan's chance was in 1996 as a U.S. Taxes Payers Party ( The Constitution Party today) I'm all for the Reform Party now the CP is great but they are not all together after 2008 b/c of Alan Keyes.
