This is sung and edited by me and it's the first vid I've ever made so be kind! The song is "she moved through the faire", a traditional song. Forgive me for the background noise, that's the TV :) best versions are probbly the ones sung by Mary Black or Cara Dillon

Lyrics:

My young love said to me, "My mother won't mind
And my father won't slight you for your lack of kind"
And she stepped away from me and this she did say:
It will not be long, love, till our wedding day"

As she stepped away from me and she moved through the fair
And fondly I watched her move here and move there
And then she turned homeward with one star awake
Like the swan in the evening moves over the lake

The people were saying, no two e'er were wed
But one had a sorrow that never was said
And I smiled as she passed with her goods and her gear,
And that was the last that I saw of my dear.

Last night she came to me, my dead love came in
So softly she came that her feet made no din
As she laid her hand on me and this she did say
"It will not be long, love, 'til our wedding day"

  • I disagree with many other people that your version is too fast. I feel that some songs loose their meaning if sung too slowly as sentences can become disjunct to the listener. Your version captures the haunting movement. As the song says 'like the swan in the evening moves over the lake'... swans aren't slow, it's their grace that creates the magic.

  • Wow Beautifully sung.

  • Such an angelical voice! Tell us the truth, you're not human!

  • Wonderful !! .. Thank You.

  • I can hear the bagpipes in your voice! Very nice job. Wonderful pitch, I appreciate your musicality of the piece, the pace with which you sing it made me concentrate on the piece even more. I hate when a vocalist makes it sound like a dirge, it's such a beautiful song. Well done.
