Journey to the East-China Training Trip

A group of Kungfu and Tai Chi students from USA went to China to seek knowledge of Kungfu wisdom, to find out they would get more than they wished for. They met the challenges and vicissitudes in lifes journey metaphorically but also in the real journey to the East. On the journey they not only found in themselves who they were, but they learned life lessons to be a compassionate human being or just to be a being, either living in odd with others or harmoniously with others.

Following the Greeting Olympic Games Cup in Hong Kong, March 7-11, the US Kungfu Sanshou Team under the tutelage of Grand Master Deru (Shawn Liu) and his student and assistant coach, K-1 and UFC fighter Patrick Barry, George Lunsford and Jeff Bordelon along with a delegation of* *health conscious professionals and team supporters traveled with a US-Chinese TV Crew and local hosts. Together they have visited many Chinese families, schools, temples and universities from which they learned much about the ancient country of China and gained a better understanding its people. They went through many modern cities such as Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai and climbed two of the five major mountains of China, Song Shan and Yellow Mountain Peaks (Lian Hua Feng, 1,864 m); their steps were seen throughout China before the Olympic Games at the hot spot of Tibetan demonstration and violence. For three weeks, they encountered many challenges and extreme conditions. They came out of China not only with great knowledge but also with many unique life experiences.

During the trip, among them, many learned from each other to be proactive to seek real-life solutions instead of becoming each others problems. Most of them not only became responsible for their own lives but also learned to help one another, and cooperate and communicate with each other so as to create synergy to motivate and inspire one another, enriching each others lives on the journey. They learned to lead by good example, with character, integrity, caring, and understanding.

They learned to solve problems and conflicts encountered not only between their local Chinese business hosts and the delegation, but also between their own groups. It is a true struggle between the self centered selfish few and the giving and compassionate many who tried so hard to win and influence the few by living examples. Despite the personal conflicts, and emotional struggles, the group are eventually working together to achieve one goal that is to come together into China and leave China without leaving a single person behind.

They rediscovered during the tough times in China, their true nature, to enlighten and empower, to be compassionate and harmonious with the environment, and to be truly happy with one another and treasure their lives together. On the journey they meditated and learned to cultivate bodies, minds and spirits with high discipline and strong character.

From the journey arose many with leadership and good character. Through the journey they rediscovered their extensive natural abilities, whether from climbing the mountain top or training at the Shaolin Temple. The group went into the places few foreigners had ever stepped into, not to mention participating in events rarely seen even by local Chinese people. They engaged in deep relationships with peasants and workers families and other communities rarely seen in the west including countryside life, the Tianmen Square scare reflected by the Tibetan conflicts, and violence the outward excitement of the Hong Kong international competition, and the internal intensity of Shaolin Temple training.

This Journey to the East production is a true effort of cooperation between the East and that of the West.
