In continuation of my last video, I've built a "storage depot" that automates the process of organizing and retrieving storage minecarts.

1. Powered minecart pushes storage minecart over minecart sorter
2. Minecart sorter diverts storage and powered minecarts off to powered/storage minecart sorter.
3. Storage minecarts are boosted to storage depot. Powered minecarts are either returned alone or (if one is available) push back an emptied storage minecart.
4. When minecarts in the depot have been emptied, a master "return" button sends them to a holding area such that one can be made available if a powered minecart deposits another cart.

Shortcomings:
- Powered minecarts always return along the same line, even though inbound powered/storage minecarts can be accepted from the two lines which have minecart sorters.
- If all bays in the storage depot are full, minecarts pile up and can't be "returned" automagically.
- Only one storage minecart can be pushed by a powered minecart.
- If all bays in the holding area are full, bad things happen and stuff gets gummed up fast. I'll probably remedy this by diverting extra carts into lava/cactuses/a pez dispenser.

Speaking of pez dispensers...

Originally, I was planning to make storage minecarts pez-dispense. This plan was ok, but there's no elegant way to detect when a pez dispenser is empty since you need a half-block underneath. Thus, the holding bays.

Also, even if I didn't care about whether the pez dispenser was empty or not, I couldn't find a clean, space-efficient way of boosting a storage minecart out the bottom of the stack. Powered minecarts alone can't do this: they pull out two carts from the stack because they're so slow.

Anyway, suggestions, questions, and comments are always welcome. Please feel free to leave your feedback.

  • how about a automatic wheat farm

  • @0ld5oul Wheat is really inefficient when you compare how much work it takes to farm (even when it's automated) to a melon farm or a cow/pig farm. I'll hopefully be making a melon farm video soon, I just need to find some damn slime.

  • Thats pretty awesome, does it work for Entity transportation?

  • @BlackDragonIX Potentially, though I haven't tried it. The odd pig/wolf gets caught in a minecart every now and then, and it seems to work *okay*, so I have to say yes.

  • nice Job. I have built a fully automated supply depot. Wherever you are in the world. If you send a Full supply minecart it will return an empty supply minecart back to you. I am using a pez dispenser. My next project is to make a counting machine, so i can put in several Pez dispensers.

  • lol at first when you said where it went i thought u said "Mom Grinder" instead of "Mob Grinder"

  • Very nice. I have my own minecart storage system that I built. I pride myself in being totally self taught and not looking at logic gates and other peoples ideas, but I'll have to snag some of your ideas ;)

  • Nice video, and if you are having trouble with rain and weather lagging up your game, try installing Single Player Commands into your game, it has a command for disabling weather, and I think Zombe's Mod Pack has something like that as well.
