Wacantognaka (Wa-chon-toeg-nah-kah Lakota word for: Generosity)
When white settlers first came to America, they didn't know which foods to eat and which were poisonous. There were harsh cold winters and the settlers were starving. Our culture highly values generosity and our ancestors fed the settlers and taught them which foods were edible. It is important to thank the earth, animals, spirits and creator though our thoughts, prayer and creating a spirit dish. It honors them and it is makes the food healthier and tastier. Thanksgiving isn't just once a year, we live it everyday. What you give away, you keep. What you keep, you lose. Our life on Earth is short, our life in the Spirit World is eternity. This is what we were taught Thanksgiving is. Pilamaya Ye (Thank you)

  • The white settlers should have been fed the poisonous foods so that there would not have been any genocide and the control of all of the lands they've taken from us.

  • put your gratitude in water before drinking wonderful vid thanks for sharring wisdom you so right on n beautiful!

  • There is something like thanksgiving in the Old Religion. It's called Mabon. We celebrate and give thanks everyday, but Mabon is reserved specifically for us all to get together as one person and give thanks as a whole.

  • @runingblackbear Well said.My European ancestors fished for profit and kept fishing until there was no more fish. The natives respected all that was given to them and only took what they had need of to feed themselves. They had no concept of monetary profit. Now we mine for oil to make lots of money to buy nice cars that pollute the air the ground the air.The problem is that we exploit what GOD has created because we know that he will come and save us from our self's. and make everything all good.

  • With humbleness/humility I say thank you for these wise words.
