This investigation describes and demonstrates a novel technique for the visualization of magnetic fields. Two ferrofluid Hele-Shaw cells have been constructed to facilitate the imaging of magnetic field lines. We deduce that magnetically induced photonic band gap arrays similar to electrostatic liquid crystal operation are responsible for the photographed images and seek to mathematically prove the images are of exact dipole nature. This is the hypotrochoid ring magnet version, and the second half shows a tunnel connecting two poles. All Rights Reserved M. Snyder 09/25/2008
This is uncanny but these patterns are in some crop circles, wow.

Do you have a vid showing two magnets with the poles on a vertical axis, joining and separating? I would like to see their separate fields join together and then become two separate fields again. Very nice video and apparatus you have built.

You should spin the magnet at high speed on its axis (or even at low speed) and see if the magnetic field pattern detaches from the magnet so that it operates as an independant entity all its own, if you know what I mean....
