A gala evening in Ascona with Pepe Lienhard and his Big Band is an event not to be missed. The Swiss music director and saxophonist Pepe Lienhard is a big fan of Ascona and of the festival (which assigned him an Ascona Jazz Award in 2006), and he is one of the most popular faces of the show business and music of German-speaking countries. The band, which is made up of ten high-class instrumentalists and three great singers, has a very broad repertoire, goes often on tour with the famous German singer Udo Jürgens, and has participated in hundreds of important events throughout the years.
The Pepe Lienhard Big Band will be in Ascona on the occasion of the festival's Swiss day, at the end of which Lienhard will give this year's winner the Swiss Jazz Award 2011.
