Project for the Innocent client Obie Anthony, who was released from prison on Oct. 4 after spending 17 years in jail for a murder he did not commit, spoke from 11:50 am-1 pm in Hall of the 70s on Monday, Oct. 31 on Loyola Law School's downtown Los Angeles campus. Judge Kelvin D. Filer of Los Angeles Superior Court had ordered the release of Anthony, who was serving a life sentence after being wrongfully convicted at the age of 19 in 1995. The release came in the wake of an evidentiary hearing during which witnesses were examined by members of the Project for the Innocent, which had been working on the case since 2008.
I worked with Obie in the California Conservation Corps in Camarillo, CA. He was always a stand up man, even helped to promote me in the CCC. I was trying to contact him after I left the CCC, obviously with no results since he had been wrongfully accused and incarcerated. I would really like to talk to him, as he was one of the few in the CCC that I really considered a friend.
