    When he temporary received Clark's powers from Jor-El in episode 1 of season 3 it weakened his heart and the shock of Lionel discovering Clark's secret caused heart failure. That is the gist of it.

    I don't normally watch Smallville my sister does, but i had caught this episode when it was on tv, i thought the song was well chosen. T,T and it was one of the saddest tv deaths i had ever seen. T,T
