This is an outstanding, eloquent, and disturbing by the American author Dee Brown, detailing the struggles of Native Americans, and the persecution they suffered, in the West in th second half of the 19th century. It's not as if Dee Brown hates white people (though he might feel some of these feeling toward some of the men he wrote about in this book). He did his fair share of research in national libraries (using council records, autobios, and firsthand descriptions) and the accounts of chiefs and warriors that survived, he tried to tell as accurate and unbiased perspective as possible and the words speak for themselves. Dee Brown actually wrote 25 books on the civil war.

I read this book in 1995. I think it probably changed my life. I wrote a song when I'd read it. I recorded the song and sent a copy to Dee Brown, who was then an elderly man living in Little Rock, Arkansas. He replied saying that several people had written songs based on his book and he felt this was the best one. Obviously this was a great thrill to me. The song is now on You Tube. Wounded Knee by Keith Beasley. Dee Brown passed away in 2002 aged 94. The most powerful book I've ever read.

@travelingwilbury1 Wow! Great to know that many other people were touched by it. That's great to hear your story. I will give your song a listen. Cheers.
