@hauleywood quite some time as you only need it to start it ... simply add a super cap .. and a phase 2 switch .. and add a second coil for output .. or 60 wires if you desire .. so basically you start the unit as showen but place a cap inplace of meter .. once it is charged ... remove battery .. and throw switch .. REACTIVATE VIA MAGNET ... now it has NO BATTERY : )

I replicated this thing , bought 4 square neos with magnetizing direction through the smallest distance. You can find this 1 - 2 volt joule thief circuits in the net. No matter how I tried putting the neos at the edges of the half yoke, nothing happens: I mean: no average DC on the secondary. Need a hint.

Have you noticed : he is measuring DC and I see no diode.

This is not the voltage induction principle applying here, because for creating DC Voltage the magnetic flux must steadily grow , and he can't because of the saturation limits of the yoke - core. So the joule thief may cause the output on the other side but the measured secondary voltage does not depend directly on the energy that is fed by the joule thief circuit.

He should put a load on the secondary.

Well the meter takes nearly nothing to measure the current, so not very exciting... I'd like to see him make a coil that can run a load, that would be something.
