  • part of the reasons is why it is so loud is just because the video camera i use is a little older, and the higher frequencies are picked up SOOO much. its dumb. but it causes the upper half of the instrument to sound like crap on camera.

  • Glad I'm not the only one who kicks his foot up in the air during the glisses.

  • Great job! Great technicality! However, I wouldn't say poor musicality. I think this is a piece that grow's musically over time. For me this piece requires a more technical approach while learning note accuracy and movement. There is a great quote by drum set player Jojo Mayer, "it's the down fall of every art form when the discipline becomes more important than the expression". Take this into account, and try to balance musicality with technicality in your practice and performance.

  • I would review the dynamics because pretty much everything was forte. Also, slow the piece down... Especially the section starting at 163. You play it about twice as fast as it should be. It just doesn't sound good that fast.

  • Nice work, BUT :-) You know... I don't know is this your teacher, or someone from your class, but... his "metronome" foot stomping is not so cool... and on the places where you're getting too fast or too slow it doesn't make you a nice advertise. :S

  • Now that I'm playing this piece... I think you need to slow it down man. You're really losing some of the awesome harmonies and lines with your speed. Impressive to say the least, but the music isn't all there because of it. Nice work, though.

  • Wow man that's SICK! Well done on a very difficult piece.

  • i really like this piece. i think you should relax a bit though and try and get more accuracy with the notes rather than speed. the running passages seem to rush quite a lot when i think they should be enjoyed a bit more.

  • Giff Howarth has this piece rated in difficulty with the likes of rhythm song and virginia tate. Opinions? I don't want to dive into scolding water, but if it's fairly doable, I might try my hand on it.

  • I love this piece. I'd say good technicality AND musicality. Because of the recording quality, we're obviously not going to hear your full dynamic range, but this sounds very good, especially since it's a really hard piece. Funnily enough, I actually study with Dr. Norton. He's the head of the percussion department at Belmont, so it's mind-blowing to sit outside his practice room and hear him play this. Not sure what mallets you're using, but if it helps, he always uses Malletech

    Great job! (:
