@MrDukemeister - They weren't checking panties. They were checking to make sure the stews were wearing the regulation girdle & bra. Even the skinniest of "girls" had to wear a firm-control bra and a firm-control girdle.

And that wasn't the only industry that dictated what sort of underwear female employees had to wear. My mom worked for Weight Watchers in the 1980s, and ALL lecturers & clerks had to wear firm-control girdles under their clothes, & maintain a strictly controlled weight.

@MrDukemeister On the other hand we should do an extrapolation for the average weight of a 21st century fight attendant based on the trajectory of the past 35 years.  By all calculations the mass of a fat ass flight crew (minus the skinny guys) should hit 300 lbs by 2015. GOD BLESS THE USAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. Man I hated it when the stewardesses were both really capable at their jobs and also comely/ nice. It's much better today when they're mean and act like they, not you, paid for the ticket
