ignore the opera so called experts.Listen to his voice singing "Torna a Surriento" or "Pearl Fishers Duet". Good pitch,purity, dynamics, passion. (Bocelli has no passion). He is purer than Pavarotti. In fact he is only equalled by Jose Carrera in his prime.

@HayleyShark Boy, you hit the nail right on the head...seems to be a bias that he doesn't imitate and/or look like your typical Italian opera singer. Russell is a unique talent with an amazing voice, range and styles....he can do it all quite beautifully, thank you.

He's good & I lik him, but I think that he's considered as a student compared with the giants ! Listen to some other Opera singers like Pavarotti OR Andrea Bocceli OR Jose Carreras OR Placido Domingo & tens of Others . Please, do have my best regards . . . (Listen to this song Va, Pensiero done by the Italian singer Zucchero. You'll love it). Besides, on the Youtube, you can find it done by Zucchero & Pavarotti.

Too many snobs out there. Most of the those who moan haven't made a name for themselves. If it wasn't for Russell I wouldn't have listened to Opera. He opened my eyes. Everyone is entitled to put their mark on songs - he did, he enjoys what he's doing and he's earning money from it. More than what other people can say for themselves.
Fair enough if you don't like it but don't judge him for it. Opera snobs aren't worth their salt and give a fantastic genre a bad name.
