i don't mean to poop on you or your projects... but possibly in the next life we will not cement the water in, allow the raccoon to poop in it, and humbly bring buckets to and from our spring to fill up a cistern that gravity feeds the rest of our needs. no deep trenches need digging, no cement need pouring, no raccoon need displacing, perhaps not the same convenience, but perhaps in the next life we will not all be so distracted by computers and video cameras and hey, i'm still learning, too

How much higher is the tank from your home and how far is the run from the tank to the home? Thanks for your time! I love your and and your energy! We live much the same but we are in north west Arizona in the hills. The wy ur place is set up now is that our well pumps water to our 1200 gallon tank that sits around 16ft higher than our home plus abut a 25 feet away to it and our pressure is shit! I'm deciding to either place it higher on the hill or add a pressure pump. Love your place!

would you recomend this type of system? I am looking at a house that has a gravity feed spring water system like this. The black exterior pipe runns down the hill right on top of the ground to a tank right outside of the house. (no holding tank at the top of hill, but its steep) But the tank doesnt look as nice as ur's and the realitor claims that this can be used through the winter and will not freeze..? so i dont know, The spring looks like yours but nothing around it

Fitting name for your cabin as you're a very Lucky Lady. The effort to remain free of envy has been tested, by many people. You win - I'm officially envious!
Thanks, fast reply.
For water pipes. Go to Lows or HomeDepot or any good hardware store. They sell a electric heat wire kit, cheap! People use it for house roof & eves to prevent ice dams. It can also be used for outside water pipes to prevent icing, uses low VAC current. Be sure you get the one for PVC pipe if that's what your using. Don't use it during warn weather. Just insulate it well!
Good Luck, say hello to Juju for me!

@mik22pik i plumbed my whole house in PEX, so they wont crack like PVC - and they have insulation and heat tape on them. They still freeze, EVEN when i am dripping the pipes also inside the house. It has been very irritating and I am not sure how exactly i will solve it, but will be putting even more layers of insulation for sure.
the system above the house never freezes and works well. Its gets frigid cold up on top this mountain and i dont get any sunlight to creat heat during the winter.

Very cool and Juju is great!
Use a local bait shop for live bait for the pond, need small fish.
What do you do for heat and hot water?
mik22pik 1 year ago
@mik22pik i have a woodstove for heat, and for hot water i have a tiny electric hot water heater for now. I dont get enough sun to do anything solar.

@ecofashionista
Sorry, just another question. Did you install the water feed system yourself.
Looks like the northern areas. I'm thinking of moving out to the woods myself.
Best of luck, love Juju, so cool!

@mik22pik I had help from some guys who dig wells and set up springs. We planned it out together, i explained how i wanted to lines buried and not to freeze, they used a bob cat machine because i wanted pipes buried really deep! they never freeze, but the ones under my house freeze when it gets really cold, those are exposed to the air and so far no amount of insulation has worked.
